Artist Statement

I had never seen something so beautiful and from then on, there was no turning back. I was 11 years old when I first saw Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain. The film had a dreamlike quality that was hypnotic. In the film the sun was setting, slowly engulfing Paris in a golden blanket. The buildings in Paris were beautiful with a menacing gothic appeal, so I was sure the film was a sign to go into architecture. However I traveled down a long path that got me back to where I started. The first “film” I worked on was my friends'. I built the set, transforming his cluttered deck into a starry night. As I watched what we had made I remembered Amelie saying, “I like to look for things no one else catches.” This quote has been an inspiration and as a filmmaker I want to present the audience with things that go unoticed. A majority of the time the best stories are the one’s that can be stripped to the core and still have some heart to them. Relationships people develop with one another are fascinating, and sometimes they can form defining moments in eachother's lives. As a filmmaker I hope to capture this phenomenom and express it as an art form.
